Coach

Coach Buss has taken multiple years of training in dance and tumbling, primarily in Western Iowa. She danced and cheer in high school and in college on scholarship for cheerleading and vocal. She has trained and worked in various gymnastics gyms most notably training  and observing while teaching for two years at Cardinal Gymnastics under Oklahoma coaches KJ Kindler and Lou Ball during their time at Iowa State University. 

Sarah has training and certifications that include the Teachers Dance Training at Broadway Dance Center in New York City, ACCA certification, Spirit Squad Management Certification and coaches training from NDA, NCA and Marching Auxiliaries. Buss has coached at Ames High School for 19 years as the Head Drill Team Coach and 11 years as the head Fall Cheerleading and Competition Cheer coach.  While at Ames High she has had the opportunity to host a variety of state wide events which includes serving as the Host Director for the ICCA Honor Squad where over 200 girls come to prepare for the State Football performance, Host Director for the All-Iowa Drill Team Auditions where over 100 schools attend and 500 dancers audition for a spot to perform at the State Girls Basketball Tournament Finals, Host Director for the Central Iowa Dance Critique,  teams from all over the state come to perform their competition routines for a panel who critiques them and Host Director to ICCA All State Tryouts were a panel selects 30 girls to represent the state out of 200 girls who audition. 

Noteable Honors & Accomplishments for Sarah Buss include: 
  • 2 National and several regional and state titles for Drill Team and Cheer

  • 2010 Iowa Cheerleading Coaches Association District Cheer Coach of the year
  • 2010 Iowa State Dance Team Association Character Counts Drill Team Coach of the year
  • 2011 Iowa State Dance Team Association Lifetime Achievement Award- and was the youngest in the awards history to receive it
  • 2013 Choreographer for the Mary Greeley Medical Center Pink Glove campaign which produced over 32,000 votes and won 3rd place in a National contest that raised money for the American Cancer Society. 
  • 2014 she was awarded the Iowa Cheerleading Coaches Association Coach of the Year
  • Judge for the NAIA Heart of America Conference College Duals and Regional competition and is certified through the NAIA to judge both Cheer and Dance.
